This was a great read and I would highly recommend to any reader that has interest in this type of book.

All souls have a match and life is not really about living but the endless search for the other half of ones soul. Each soul is reincarnated to continue the search until they find and merge with their other half.

Unlike the classic Vampire stories we learn that Vampires had souls at one time until one of them happen to kill the lover of a witch who then in a rage banished the souls from Vampirecurseduresed them to be alone and always searching for their souls. Creating soulless monsters to roam the earth.

This turn ofskeweds scewed the balance of good and evil and as nature is want to do the balance was restored when all the banished souls were gathered up and attached to their other human half leaving a mark that connects them to their Vampire other half making it a homing beacon of sorts.

A very inpremiseing premis for the story and the author really does a great job with the writing. We don't really get good background on all the characters but in this case it seems toOKork out ok. There is the slight annoyance of the "love him hate him" thread being dragged out over and over again but it is not totally unbearable.

This book was all over the place with plot elements that didn't add up and immature characters with apparent personality disorders. The emotional reactions of all the characters were exaggerated to the point of ridiculousness and unrealistically swung from one extreme to another in mere moments. It was incredibly unrealistic.

The story had promise and the characters weren't terrible, but the book would benefit from the author doing some serious foundational work. The world-building needs a clear set of concrete rules - too many "rules" of supernatural behavior established in the book later seemed to be broken. The plot could use some mapping to develop clear cycles of conflict and resolution, culminating in a climax that isn't kneecapped by shuffling it "off screen." The author also needs to decide on a few challenges for the characters to overcome, rather than seemingly throwing everything but the kitchen sink at the protagonist at random. And the author should really consider if 800-year-old preternatural creatures would behave like teenagers - I know it's a YA book, but Mitch was just as juvenile as Amelia.

Also, I am disturbed by some glaring elements of misogyny and abuse in this book. Amelia hero-worships and defends Mitch, even when he is violently unhinged to the point of nearly killing her. She is emotionally and socially punished for having negative emotions towards his outburst. However, later when the tables turn, Amelia is punished once again and Mitch sulks like a victim. And the obvious hypocrisy is never addressed. Also, her nickname doesn't feel like it's given to her lovingly - just, all of a sudden, she's been assigned a new name that everyone, even strangers, use. She is constantly being drug or pushed around by other characters, forced to do what they want for her, and not making many decisions on her own. She's forced into a new wardrobe and repeatedly told that her current self is inferior; she's forced into new "friendships" she doesn't want; she is immediately placed under almost complete house arrest; and she is repeatedly beaten by various characters (in manners that, given her symptoms, I am not confident she would live through). And the entire town is so intimidated by Mitch that he can abuse this orphaned and barely-legal young woman in whatever manner he pleases. The most disturbing part, for me, is that they are professing their love for one another in the midst of it all - it's not love to behave in the manner of the main characters; instead, it smacks of these characters all having severe psychological and emotional problems.

And, then, of course, there are all the unanswered questions hanging around - the most obvious one for me being given the emotional value placed on the appearance of the house, why on earth didn't she recognize it in the very beginning of the book??

Given the psychology issues inherent in the characters, I would not recommend this book to a young adult. Teenage years are confusing enough without a book like this spelling out exactly what not to do and then either glorifying it or excusing it. Young women, especially, don't need to be consuming the kind of message illustrated in this book that shows a young woman accepting and even loving the severe abuse from her partner, family, and friends.
I tried. Really hard. But still couldn't get into this book. It had potential but unfortunately didn't deliver at atleast for me. Felt like screaming at every character to move this story along. Overall just a frustrating book but much going on, except that it was free.
The start is boring and all over the place. I kept having to go back and re-read because it was so jumpy and you missed things. Many of the conversations were stiff and difficult to follow. Instead of pulling the audience in and making them feel and experience the things that were happening, I felt like it was just telling.

In my opinion, the worst part is the characters.

Amelia She is dull, and the author cannot pinpoint what she is like. It starts out that she is shy, but then out of nowhere, it is only sometimes. Right from the start, Amelia is painted as an emotional girl, one who cries easily. However halfway through the book, she questions why she has cried so much as of late. I thought that was her personality. Apparently not…who knew? She is also prone to annoying dramatic outbursts. They come fast and at crazy times.

Mitchel He is painted as this amazingly kind caring guy. He seems like someone who genuinely wants to show Amelia all the love he can. Then this massive angry ( and excuse my language) a-hole is whom he becomes! He becomes stubborn and unpredictable. I think it was supposed to be a twist, but instead, it was lame.

Angelle She seems like the popular, dressed to the T, type. She is overly bubbly and helpful. She also seemed to be someone who would stick up for Amelia and cared about her. Then when a bunch of girls starts picking on Amelia, Angella stands by and agrees with them. Oh, but don’t worry, she springs back into caring about Amelia soon after.

Eric He jumps from caring friend to horndog back to the caring friend so many times it will make your head spin!

Erin She just cannot decide whom she wants to be.

Luke I think he is the only one who does not change. Unfortunately, he is the quiet type, so, of course, it is easy to keep him from changing.

I was also very upset that a lot of violent things happen all under the guise of someone loves Amelia and is just trying to protect her. This is a HORRIBLE depiction of soulmates. Certainly, in a realistic world people argue, but if your significant other is bruising you, that is BAD. Being hurt by someone is NOT love!

Overall, it is meh. I will not be reading it again, and I will not be reading the next ones.
